As a parent I do get frustrated with this idea where it's okay once you know this everything solved. It just has always seemed a little too simplistic but also be a little bit nerve-wracking for me because then I wonder if this idea is so important. Research around struggle turns out when you're struggling with any content it's a fantastic time for your brain they've even found that when you make mistakes there's greater brain growth and activity in the brain than when you're getting work correct.

Dr. Jo Boaler is the Nomellini-Olivier Professor of Education at Stanford University and co-founder of www.youcubed.org. She is the author of eleven books including What's Math Got To Do With It? and Mathematical Mindsets. Dr. Boaler was also a White House presenter on equity.
