The height of the heel is, in many ways linked to whether or not that woman is upper class. And we get men carrying on wearing their or heels well into the eighteenth century. There's one particularly mous frenchman who is renowned for his heels. The most iconic thing is that the heels are bright red. They have a very political meaning within france. So as people travelled there, they saw this crazy fashion and brought it with them wherever they go.
