The Ghost Train Ride
The Big Dipper was first installed in the park in 1936. On April 16, 1979, three train cars were cycling around the rails like they always had for the last three decades. But on one of the trains, a running wheel came loose, and the entire train got stuck on the tracks. A fire started somewhere deep inside the building, but no one knew where. The structural damage soon forced the building to fall in on top of the rail lines. By now, firefighters and employees believed they had cycled all the carts out of the ride and evacuated all of the guests. But at 11.30 pm, bodies were spotted through the smoke and wreckage.
