The Oil Era in Tulsa
In 18 98, the federal government forced the tribe to sell off the corps land in and around the town of tulsa itself. The crucial territories that had been considered the communal property of the town were sold off to new owners and developers. Since the sovereignty of the tribe had now been basically reduced to a dead letter, the residents then incorporated a city. So now, for the first time, tulsa was incorporated as a town with its own elected government, completely separate and apart from the creek nation. And this paved the way, almost immediately, for the next big economic boo, which was oil.
