Are You Writing a Novel in Which Everyone Is Well Behaved All the Time?
In times of extremism and polarization like these, fiction writers are particularly suspect because they write about human beings. The aim of ideology is to eliminate ambiguity. So I will continue to write about morally ambiguous characters because that's the truth. Everyone has a shadow side. Sometimes it's just a well of doubt and confusion, but everyone has one and to leave that out would be wrong.
