During Hellenistic and Maccabees, the Judeans established communities throughout the Eastern Mediterranean. They were especially populous in Egypt and the island of Cyprus. Paul encountered many Judean communities in Asia Minor, which is modern Turkey and Greece. Most regarded the temple as the great axis of their world.
