Enkidu and Gilgamesh went on lots of adventures together, including the famous battle against the demon Humbaba. They really were the best of friends, but sadly, our story today begins with Enkidu's untimely death. The problem was Gilgamesh had no idea how to protect himself from death. He spent weeks roaming the countryside thinking about his own mortality. It seemed useless. And then suddenly, it hit him. Like Noah, Utnapishtim was tasked by the gods to create a giant ship that would protect him from a giant flood. But when the storm receded, only he and his wife survived.
