How Did You Invest in Index Funds?

I have about 580,000 in those accounts through my employer 80% of that is in the S&P 500 20% is in small cap S&P fund. So it wasn't always that way in index funds right or when you first started what did you invest in? Yeah so that was that was a journey when he first started I remember I went down to Edward Jones and I wanted to buy a boat  when I was 20 all my friends were going down to this reservoir and I only had enough money for a jet ski but I thought you know if I invest this money I'm going to build a buy a boat.
