The Role of B-Cells in Chronic Inflammation

There are a lot of functions that B-cells do that are separate from its ability to differentiate into antibody-producing cells. I was really focused on the type of cytokines that they could secrete. And so our work showed that actually if you had what's called B-effector-2, or TH-2-scued B-cells, you activated them in the kidney. This could actually drive glomerular injury and protonuria in mice. We found similar signals in patients with minimal change disease, which is the most common cause in the Phrotic Syndrome in children.
