The Mayan calendar resets periodically and that's just sort of the way it works. The Maya, there's no evidence that the Maya thought that this date was going to be apocalyptic or that it's signaled anything. This is interesting because it's basically taking like four different history channel apocalypse specials and smashing them together. If they get too big though, we should consider it, I think.
