Photography can become so inward looking that it forgets about the outside world in which it exists. For me there is always a problem with interpretation. One person's interpretation of a situation, of a piece of work, of a photographer is actually nothing more than subjective opinion. So often when that's coming from an academic perspective that interpretation is reliant on what other people think and other previous writing.
