Even as a young woman, i found mastering the simplest vacuum cleaner or washing machine was an artful way of getting me out of doing things. I'd just have to be taught things, whereas other people can manage perfectly easily and without looking at instructions. My partner does nearly all the cooking - why can't i do it? She didn't know how to use an arga when we first moved in, but with just, you know, about five minutes experimenting, right, she was up to speed. But if you ask me which little oven bit is the one where you actually cook and which is the one that warms the plates, i still get them mixed up. And banks too
