I want the book to be largely jokes and beauty but it wouldn't be honest if there wasn't a little bit of dread. My favourite is Laura, who becomes an author in order to annoy her best friend's husband who she can't stand. There's a kind of absurdity about them that's very cruel but it also relieves the reader of feeling too bad about what happens.
