Behind the Bastards

CHAPTER

Tim McVay and the Gulf War

Tim McVay was the gunner on a Bradley fighting vehicle. During a battle in country, he killed two Iraqi soldiers and watched in horror as their bodies disappeared into a red mist. The whole war left a bad taste in Tim's mouth. He focused some of that frustration on the black soldiers who served alongside him. Several of them walked around the base in black power shirts which infuriated Tim. While he swore he never embraced racism, McVay actively explored the racist point of view.
