Is There a Good Time to Start a Patient on a Statin Therapy?

When considering drug therapy, we want to maximize the intensity of therapy to one's absolute risk. For a patient who's statin reluctant a little bit, if there is some indecision, that's where I think it's the perfect time to get a coronary artery calcium score. The sole purpose of giving this is not so much to make the LDL number, although that's important because I think lower is better for higher risk patients. But mostly it's to reduce cardiovascular risk.
