One of those differences in opinion. And like I've tried my best to stay away from the Twitter discourse so far. But this part I just find fascinating is the question of collective right, because I think this goes to the fundamental divide of all of it. And I think it's just an important philosophical question as well. Do you have rights as an American citizen, special rights as an American citizen, special rights as someone who, what's the J.D. Vance line, has had five generations die in the same burial plot. Yeah. And I think the big question is something like, first of all, is it just to have collective rights? That's one of the big questions. But the one I'm almost more interested in is the question of meaning, right? This is something that comes up over and over again. Do you need a collective right, a collective spirit, a collective will to have pride in your country, to believe in things, to really be motivated to do things? Is that why people are so unmotivated? think that. I think that one aspect of our current sort of political, social, cultural pathologies is this hyper-individualistic, I don't even want to say hyper-individualistic because that on its own is not entirely the problem, but.

The word I've heard, and we can talk more about it as well, is managerial, right? Very managerial, very quantified.

Okay. What I was, yeah. And so what's managing people's lives is this, this sort of formal kind of government's structure or these like formal institutions rather than the informal entities of like local community or something. Okay. So as local community has broken apart and there's been this kind of alienation from identity and from a collective identity. What then manages the texture and meaning of people's lives are these like big overarching structures. And what I think like JD Vance is referencing is that we need to derive meaning out of our like flesh and blood identity and those relationships to like kin networks and extended kin networks that, or for which like social identity, a kind of formal governmental identity is not a substitute. Okay. What am I saying here? Like that, that, yeah, the, we need to be able to understand ourselves in terms of the old modes of like local tribe, our families, people who look like us, people who sound like us. And we can't just live in a kind of completely heterogeneous nation where all of those kinds of connections are severed. And the only thing that organizes our life is like this very high level, top level sort of institutional identity. And this dovetails with the immigration question. Okay, then what does it mean? What does it mean to be like an American? What does it mean to have a relationship with the people who live in the town I'm in or the city I'm in? Is all of that stuff like meaningless? And instead, it's just this like sort of facade of America over the top of everything, something like that.
