Philip Carey: Paul's language in Romans about the law is such that the law has been taken hostage by the power of sin and death too. He was kind of wanting to reclaim the Lutheran Law Gospel distinction for Protestants, he says. Carey: But the gospel doesn't come through the law. It comes through promise. The law exists to reveal sin. In fact, when you get to chapter six, he even suggests that we've died.
