If India passes a law or deems signal to not being compliance with whatever encryption regulation you'll lock. Signal obviously cannot see what is going on inside of the script chats because it's encrypted. That means bad actors can do bad things and spread their messages inside of signal. I think that that story from Casey Newton was not a totally clear picture of the real dynamics inside signal. There's a lot of this information should not be behind walls where the decisions are made based on profit, not social good full stop.
