The Three Powers of the Soul Relevant to the Moral Life
Sally Kohn: There are three powers of the soul that are relevant to the moral life, appetite, reason and then cinderesis. She says if you follow your appetites in a way that is not subject to time or change, it's slavery. But she says by hooking your reason to this eternal, higher part of you, you gain libertas arbitrii - freedom of decision. Kohn: Let's just imagine that we really were just our desires, that all we had in our souls, our repetitive soul.
