There is good evidence that police do reduce crime. But they might also increase a variety of social costs to the communities that they're policing, right? So i think this is goingto be part of the newants in this conversation e're going to have going forward. A socially optimal system might actually be one where we have higher crime rates, but fewer of these other social costs.
