Introduction
Albert Camus was born in Algeria in 1913, a French colony at the time. He lost his father when he was a few months old in the First World War. In 1939 his play Caligula appeared, the story of the Roman Emperor,. Later he published his famous novel La Tangeu and philosophical essay The Myth of Cisaphas. After the war he devoted himself to writing and established an international reputation with his novels. Was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957 aged 44 - the second youngest recipient in history.
