Historiansplaining: A historian tells you why everything you know is wrong
The Order of the British Empire
The honor system expanded a lot in the 20th century right which can seem ironic right at the time when the Empire is breaking up the Church of England these other institutions are losing a lot of their power this honor system expanded. It's remarkable how rare it is for anyone to say no I don't need to be a commander of the order of the British Empire what or whatever this you know pompous sort of title is it keeps going and people seem to still like it. The more kind of snivels and the more popular it gets the more people want to have a share of it.
