How to Speak English Effectively

Many speaking exercises when it's just vocalizing grammar, instead of actually trying to take part in a normal conversation. And so pretty quickly, I think, for most students, it just sort of becomes this what feels like a meaningless exercise. So going to the emotional side, then what, how do you help people with that? What do you advise students to do?
