The Family Paradox in the 60s
Edward Teller started the search for extraterrestrial intelligence with Project Osmur in 1960 or 1961. The obvious answer under this kind of oppressive ominous cold war context appeared to people was basically the bomb. Soviet astrophysicists where basically they you know it wasn't done just have to be a question of why haven't the aliens arrived on earth and left evidence for themselves.
