Is Emotional Intelligence Overrated?
Emotional intelligence, as originally defined and studied, is about the skills you have in recognizing emotions. And it turns out that at least if you measure job performance, it's not nearly as important as people think it is. We were used to an cognitive bias against emotional intelligence which i think we've sort of corrected over time. I would rather see us invest in how do get better at reading other people's emotions? Rather than how do you know, focus on their goals and focuses on what they want from a manager.
