Adam Gresham Machin: A History of Christianity

The book is pretty straightforward honestly. It's a good basic sort of intro into one Christianity from a distinctly reformed perspective and to sort of the controversies that really shaped the 20th century. The proposition may be that they are both related in a sort of materialism and view of the world. I am sure that theologians that he refers to as liberal theologically were also politically progressive so there is sort of an intermashing there.
