The 30 Years War: A History of Religion

The 30 years war was not just about religion, for many at the time it was absolutely very much about religion. Tens of thousands of ordinary people go and fight to do their bit English, Scotch and Welsh for Protestant forces. The Catholic French monarchy intervenes on behalf of the Protestant German princes in Sweden. Constant warfare demands a lot of money, and it gets more and more expensive as technology grows with the use of gunpowder and massive great big walls for 45 towns. So private citizens, however over my TV might be, really can't act it anymore.
