Jack bogle was fired from wellington. He figured out how he could continue to manage investments, despite rules to the contrary. And so through creating an entity, vanguard, that could offer passively managed funds to the masses. The 19 70 berm it was the biggest just fore inflation since the great depression. Wellington basically collapsed. Money gushed out of its funds. It was a terrible time. But bogl had no intention of basky resigning himself to be a well paid clerk. So he gave this company the very grandiose name of vanguard and decided he need an opening. This was a way to stick two fingers up till the people had sacked him.
