The Role of Proximity Talks in Liberia
In Boer's Recanting of the Story, they go to the State Department and they are told that the US will not let them meet face to face. And they offer proximity talks instead. Both sides decide that that's ridiculous because frankly, we can't trust the US State Department to honestly broker messages between us. So very different from Herman Cohen's telling where he says, well on the one hand, the Tubman delegation was so stubborn and ridiculous and they refused to meet with armed rebels.
