How we group the stars really comes down to our visual processing, as opposed to a base need for us to assign our culture's belief to the star systems up above. Researchers catalogued constellations across 27 cultures in six major regions around the world. They found that the group shared quite a lot of common pattern that makes sense. If the way our brains process what we're seeing is the same then we'd theoretically all be seeing the same key patterns of stars.
