Early english kings try to control that space. And then an interesting thing happens when augustine, so the roman church tries very, very hard to get control of those spaces. Augustine does interesting things. So he, at the end of the sixth century and the beginning of the seventh, he really wants to get into canterbury. He really wants to be able to build churches and control space inside the roman urban space. There's the famous battle of durham, which was supposed to have happened in 577.
