God Is in All Things
For saint thomas, god is that very activity. He is the very activity of existence. So he often uses the analogy of a, say, a pan or pot and fire, that fire is the very act of burning. There is tha. Burning is not separate from fire. And so when you put a pan on the fire, the pan begins to burn and begins to heat up. The same is true for existence. In god, god is not separatefrom existence. He is existing. Just as the pan is heated by participation in the fire, so we are existing by our participation in god. All things that exist exist by participation ingod himself.
