A lot of sports drinks are designed to replace carbohydrate first and then provide some fluid second. A typical sports drink usually has multidextrin fructose and glucose in it. When you have a upsurge of estrogen and progesterone in women, say about the seven days before their menstrual period starts, they lose 8% of the water from their blood. You're effectively dehydrating yourself when you're taking in these sugars in this concentrated carbohydrate drink.
