Isaia Thomas, the Origins of No Crime Day, and the Idea of Replacing Black on Black Crime
The origins of no crime day, it was bigger in detroit and got more attention because of isaiah's celebrity than it did anywhere. i think it reinforces ideas about, like, a, the culture pathology and all of these, like problematic ideas associated with blackness and crime. And we had perspectives from the woman who was the head of the campaign in detroit, from police officer, from the sisters of a young man who was killed. It's that simple that it feels like the very eighties approach. We were less concerned about p r in that moment than in doing something, because hopelessness was a major problem too.
