As Uruguay readjusted to freedom, most of its members wanted to avoid returning to guerrilla warfare. Jose Mujica argued for an entry into traditional party politics and staged public forums known as Matadas. He'd retained his childhood egalitarian passions, but prison had made him more philosophical and deepened his ruffune physical allure.
