I think people don't always understand what the technology does, which is very reasonable. Separately, I think that we should strive for a balance of dragnet surveillance and privacy by default. All potential technologies are compatible with disclosing specific information to specific parties. If the government wants to make a law that says you must disclose XYZ information to XYZ parties, they can make that law.
