Is There a Future in the Mines?

He's a mining inspector and he uses his experience in the in the mines as a metaphor so he celebrates darkness and death. He is also someone who you know who uses fictitious philosophy of the self in a quite idiosyncratic way because when his fiance Sophie dies when she's 15 he decides that he's going to use fictitious philosophy to kill himself. unsurprisingly he fails to do this but he turns it into his poetry cycle hymns to the night which is so exquisite.
