The Problem With Joseph Smith's Theology
Most biblical scholars would argue that Abraham probably was not a real person. To establish a Melchizedek priesthood through a fictional or mythical character doesn't work. Joseph Smith is basically trying to backfit a story by using something that's not historical and trying to cement it down as historical.
