Do You Have a Prone Protocol?
The data with prone positioning suggest that the longer you keep them prone, the better your outcomes are. It homogenizes distribution of ventilation so rather than over inflating and injuring segments in the lung, you get a more homogeneous distribution. The other thing is that actually it tends to improve right ventricular function. There have been at least some studies suggesting that the benefit of prone positioning is limited, or not limited, but is focused in patients whose cardiac output improves when you prone them iom due to better right Ventricular function.
