In 2008, Arizona created a new policy that would pay homeowners for producing electricity through rooftop solar on their own homes. This allows people to be paid for producing extra solar energy and feeding it back onto the grid. Between 2011 and 2012, rooftop solar doubled in Arizona and suddenly the state became the second biggest market for solar energy. And then between 2012 and 2014, it doubled again.
