The Death of Franco in 1975
The last 25 years of the Franco regime, from 1950 to 1975, was a time of greatest sustained economic development and general improvement in living standards. GDP rose an average of 7.8% per year through the 1950s. The birth rate was deliberately and successfully encouraged to stay high. After form was gradually introduced as was universal education. All in all, Spain was made great again - although no doubt the Carping Left managed to convey a different picture to the world of the time.
