When Ben was a young teen, he had a growing collection of nuts magazines. He smuggled them out of his house onto the bus and into the possession of my pal without a hitch. But later that week there was a post-it note on the cover of the first magazine: 'Enjoy the read, love mum' And so began six months worth of torment from children who thought she would offer some genuinely sweet and non-evasive parental support - but in fact they were just cruel.
