Student Mobility in China
Some scholars have started to move away from seeing student mobility as a reproduction strategy or social reproduction but to see it as consumption. As the case of India's students actually shows this student mobility for the not so privileged could actually be very exploited. Building ISM from China as a form of consumption with no tangible economic return to the Chinese students also helps to highlight the inner qualities and injustice between the international students and local students like the host countries. It can argue educational mobility produces inequalities that are mainly symbolic as opposed to material. Different destinations become associated with differentiated symbolic values manifested in terms of prestige and stigma.
