The Role of Satan in the Old Testament
The role of Satan in the Old Testament is he's the district attorney of heaven. So he proposes that God try Job with suffering and then see if he's loyal to you. He asks Job a series of questions, which include such questions as why do I send rain on the desert where no man is? The Hebrews were eternally puzzled as to why this didn't work out. And ordinary interpreters of the book of Job always say it isn't really the answer. It does answer the question by asking questions.
