What's the Difference Between Northern and Southern?

Researchers used a method that only allows for binary opposites, if you like. They tried to minimize differences between the speakers themselves and just make the speech different. So we both chose female professors in their 30s who spoke what we call general Northern English. The second speaker we chose was from the South of England; they spoke what we might previously been called RP or because I'm on the BBC, I'll say BBC English. But now what we call is standard Southern British English. And that's how that's how we match them together.
