The Death of a Child in Love Canal
In 1979, a second evacuation ordered pregnant women and children under the age of two to relocate. Later in the year, the state temporarily relocated another 300 families because many had reported health issues after being exposed to hazardous chemicals. The homeowners remaining in Love Canal were becoming restless and fearful. A mob of angry citizens stormed the office of Niagara Falls mayor Michael Olaflin, demanding answers.
