Reflections on the Ultra Trail Australia Race
Exploring the grueling physical and mental challenges faced by participants in the ultra trail Australia race, highlighting the camaraderie and sense of accomplishment that come with overcoming the daunting terrain and stair-filled course.
Bev chats to Bec Burns, Partnership Manager with FulGaz, and Professional Triathlete Nikki Bartlett, FulGaz Ambassador. We find out more about Nikki’s race plans for this year plus we chat about FulGaz Femmes - a vibrant community created by women, for women. Led by a former IRONMAN World Champion turned coach, Michellie Jones, this community offers invaluable guidance and unwavering support for all women preparing for an IRONMAN event. From exclusive content tailored to improve race readiness, to immersive FulGaz group rides, weekly workouts, enriching webinars and lively Facebook chats. FulGaz Femmes provides the platform for you to thrive, before, during and after race day. Nikki will be running intimate group rides for up to 6 riders at a time so you can ask her your most burning questions.
Tim chats to Dr Kate Baldwin of Valere Endurance about the psychological and physical processes of healing from an injury. We explore the complexities of injury recovery emphasizing the difficulty in managing expectations during the healing process. We discuss the misconception that pain and function improve simultaneously and linearly, and how this can lead to disappointment when progress doesn't match expectations. We highlight that while initial recovery may bring rapid improvement, progress often slows down, and setbacks can occur, which is a normal part of the healing journey.
We stress the importance of a multidisciplinary approach when dealing with fractures and other common injuries in endurance athletes, involving sports doctors, physiotherapists, coaches and nutritionists. Additionally, we consider the potential pitfalls of rushing back into activity and the consequences of reintroducing running too soon.
We review the racing from the WTCS race at Cagliari and discuss how that now affects the lineup for Paris 2024.
