Don't think of positions and submissions as two separate things. They're really the same. All a submission is is it is a particular type of position. Your opponents posture and structure are so compromised that they basically have to give up the fight. That's all it is, right? If you try and like, dive on to submissions, you're missing the opportunity to further break down your opponent's posture and structure. This is a very subtle thing, but is actually very key. So whenever, whatever type of submission we're trying to apply, whether it's a joint lock or a choke, we want to be able to have control that leads to submission.
