The Tales of Esay by Ariwara Nonari Hirana

The final chapter of the tales of esay is number one 25, which reads in its entirety. The exact same poem appears in the kokin wakashu,. attributed to ki nosuruki's father, ki no mochi yuki. It chronicles not ariwara no nari hera's life, but is transformation from person into literary character. In this interpretation, ari wara nonari hira was not, in fact, a man at all, but an incarnation of a saintly buddhist figure.
