The Value of Freedom in Modern Politics
In American context, freedom has this very particular right valence, conservative valence. Equality and justice have a very left valence. So you don't see conservatives talking about equality in the same way as liberals or leftists do. I think to try and answer your question, my sense is that the specifically American or libertarian conception of freedom is predicated on a fundamentally vacuous and totally unpersuasive philosophy of social atomization. We are individuals only to the extent that we are individuals in a matrix with other individuals and that we're part of a totality.
